Today I had to get a new contact lens exam in order to renew my prescription. Which pissed me the hell off because I don't think it's right that we have to pay over $100 once a year just to have the doctor tell us our eyes are the same. But whatever, my eyes weren't the same. They were a tiny bit worse. And I'm upset by this because my eyes are pretty much the one thing that's really wrong with my body. I have a prescription of -.450. For anyone who doesn't wear contacts or glasses, that's really bad.
And maybe I'm stupid for thinking I can change them, but ever since I saw The Secret, and heard all those stories of people changing things that were much more detrimental, I thought, Hey, maybe I can do that. So I tried. I've tried meditating, I've tried thinking positive thoughts, I've tried imagining that my eyes are better, everything. And it doesn't seem to work. A year and two months since I first got contacts, and my eyes are only worse. I'm just worried that if I don't figure out a way to fix them now that I'll be blind by the time I'm old. And Lasik surgery won't work. The problem is severe myopia, so yeah. I guess I don't know what the point of this post is, other than I'm sad about it.
But I guess I can look past the disappointment and be grateful that I have my sight, period. I'm sure a lot of blind people would love to simply have crappy vision. And it's great that I live in a time where we have contacts. I really hated glasses all the years I had them.

My vision is super blurry at medium distances, but I'm not gonna wear contacts or glasses!
ReplyDeleteFuck it, who cares.
Meditate in the shower with scalding hot water, that's the best!
Is laser surgery an option?
ReplyDeleteNo, it won't fix myopia, which is a problem with the actual shape of the eyeball. It can lessen the near-sightedness, but I don't see the point in ever doing it if it doesn't completely fix it.
ReplyDeleteHey girl!!! It's your prodigal blog friend...I'm back!! lol
ReplyDeleteJust caught up on your last few posts. I'm sorry about the eye problem, and even though it's good to recognize that others have it worse (blind people in this case), it doesn't necessarily make you feel better about your OWN situation...so I get it. And I'm sorry.
I saw the same 2 movies you did...Sherlock and Avatar. I agree with you on Avatar...saw it in 3D and it totally rocked. Sherlock...not so much, lol. Dwayne and I were bored to tears and we left before the whole thing was over. I don't remember the last time I walked out on a movie, so yeah, we were pretty friggin' bored, lol.
That one commenter already gave you a TON of suggestions on things to do that don't involve drinking, and I would have said a lot of the same stuff....cookouts, hiking, etc. Doesn't it suck to be in a room full of drunk idiots when you're slap ass sober??? It's much better to be drunk, too, so the idiots look normal. And drunk people are MUCH funnier when you're drunk, too. :)
Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time with money. I've been there, too, where it feels like you're stuck in a cycle and there will NEVER be ANY extra money EVER again...EVER. But somehow, things seem to change...things always seem to get better, even if you can't see it right now. All you can do right now to change them yourself is just make sure that your bills are absolutely as low as you can get them. Like the cheapest cell plan with the most stuff....for instance mine is a flat rate of $50/month with unlimited minutes, unlimited texting, no restrictions on the time you can call, and free long distance. That type of thing. Cheapest internet service you can find, basic cable, if you have cable, instead of 4,000 useless channels...clip coupons for groceries and make sure you shop at a store that doubles the coupons. Keep your heat as low as you can stand and bundle up in thick socks and heavy sweaters, that kinda' crap. At least those are some of the things that I do. :)
Hey Tammy, thanks for all your helpful suggestions. :) I actually do pretty much everything you mentioned, and we haven't been all crazy tight lately since getting our tax return back so that's been nice.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I saw a movie recently that I wanted to walk out on: Legion. Good Lord, it was awful.
I don't see the eye doctor once a year, despite wearing glasses, then contacts, and now back to glasses since I was nine-years-old. My eyesight doesn't change much. I waited six years before getting my new eyeglasses. The only thing different is that I have detached pigment, so I see black specks in my vision.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to concentrate on positive thoughts. I've tried meditation and only got a sore throat from doing all the "oooms." :-)
Have you ever read the book 'The Secret' By Rhonda Byrne? It's all about how to change things in life. I haven't finished it. But it's something you can try? My boy friend's grandpa said it changed his life. :D
ReplyDeleteYeah Nicole, I saw the movie (which is better than the book, and actually came first), and that's where I got the idea from that maybe I could actually change this problem. But so far it hasn't worked.
ReplyDeleteI've been sitting here thinking positive thoughts about the shape of my ass. Unfortunately it's not working.
ReplyDeleteFuck the secret!
